In February 2008, the State of Wisconsin put in to place new immunization requirements. You can view the new requirements here.
State law requires all public and private school students to present written evidence of immunization against certain diseases (diptheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis and chickenpox) within 30 school days of admission. Parents and guardians of children who lack the proper immunizations will be notified and expected to make arrangements to receive the vaccinations.
Wisconsin State Immunization Law also requires that all students provide proof of varicella vaccination or an indication that the child has had the chickenpox disease.
Tuition for grades PreK3 full day – 8th for the 2020-2021 school year is $1700.00 per student. If you are not a member of St. Mary Parish, there is a $650 per family, ‘Out-of-Parish’ fee.
Additional Fees
Upon registration a minimum down payment of $50 per child plus the $50 playground fee is required. Any balance is to be paid monthly from September 1, 2020 – June 1, 2021. All checks for tuition payments are to be made payable to St. Mary School.
No child will be excluded from St. Mary School because of inability to pay tuition. Justice to the child is more important than payment for his/her schooling, even though the latter is needed. Tuition grants are available to assist families with payment of tuition. Please contact Father Alvin Amadi – 487-5001 or Lead Teacher Cindy Massey – 487-5004 to discuss your concerns. All information will be held in strictest confidence.
The playground fee, Technology fee, Book fee and Home & School Commitment points do not fall under any tuition assistance programs.
It is always expected that clothing and one’s personal appearance will be respectable and appropriate so that it does not distract from the educational process. For modesty reasons, midriffs must be covered and pants worn at the waist.
All students in Grades K-8 must wear either the St. Mary uniform shirts or solid blue or yellow short-sleeve polo, long-sleeve polo, or crew neck sweatshirts. During the cool weather season, a plain, solid (any color) fleece may be worn. Students in Grades 3-8 are required to wear their shirts tucked in.
The uniform also consists of PLAIN, solid colored pants which includes corduroys, cotton pants, jeans (no holes or tears), sweatpants, and wind pants (small logo acceptable). Leggings may be worn if long top is warn over to cover conservatively. Shorts or capri pants will be allowed during the months of September and May. Shorts must be no shorter than finger-tip length.
Thursdays will be DRESS FOR JESUS (mass day). Students should wear the St. Mary uniform shirts or solid blue or yellow short-sleeve polo, long-sleeve polo, or crew neck sweatshirts along with solid plain dress pants. ABSOLUTELY NO JEANS, SWEATPANTS, WINDPANTS, OR CAMOUFLAGE. Students may choose to “dress up.” Girls may wear skirts or dresses with proper seasonal leg coverage (tights or leggings). Boys may wear suit and tie, dress shirts, or sweaters.
The last day of the week will be considered a “Casual Day” on which students will be allowed to wear casual attire in place of the school uniform. However, if the last day falls on a mass day, students will be required to DRESS FOR JESUS. Attire on casual day should not have signs, logos, or statements encouraging the use of drugs or alcoholic beverages nor any statements or graphics that are contrary to the (dress shorts) mission and philosophy of St. Mary School may be worn. Clothes must be modest; under clothing should never be exposed. Pants with words or phrases written across the backside are not allowed.
Students who wear pierced jewelry may wear one “stud” or “post” type earring per earlobe at school or school activities. No part of the earring is allowed to hang below the earlobe. Students may wear a watch and one ring per hand but, no bracelets or necklaces of any type may be worn.
Shoes- Students must wear footwear that is appropriate for both indoor and outdoor activities. Flip-flops are not allowed as they do not offer protection against injury. If sandals, clogs, “crocs” or “air-walkers” are worn, they must have a back strap, which is to be used to assure they stay on the student’s feet.
Violations of the uniform policy will be handled as follows:
1st offense: The teacher will speak to the student in private. A note will also be sent home notifying the parents/guardians. The note must be returned to school signed by the parents/guardians
2nd offense: The student will be spoken to privately by the principal. A phone call will be made to the parents/guardians.
3rd offense: The principal will schedule a conference with the parents and the student to determine why the uniform code violations are occurring and to devise a plan for handling further uniform code violations.
Parents/guardians are responsible for providing transportation to and from school. Bus transportation is provided by the Algoma Public School System for those eligible to ride the bus. The public school system has contracted Dworak Bus Service from Kewaunee to provide this service. Parents can call Dworak Bus Service in Algoma (920) 487-2920 or Kewaunee (920) 388-2777 – directly to arrange for bus transportation for your student.
Parents may also consider car pooling, especially those who live outside the Algoma school district.
